Photographer Research Assignment-Portrait

Summative Portrait Photographer Research Assignment

OBJECTIVE
To research and understand a well known portrait photographer and his/her meaning and decision making behind their photographs.

WHAT
You are to research and thoroughly answer a series of questions about your chosen photographer and his/her work.  If you cannot find direct answers to the questions, analyze the work based on your own interpretations of the work.

**This may be posted to your blog or created in a Power Point and emailed to me at acmanciu@aps.k12.co.us

DIRECTIONS
1. Choose a photographer that interests you
2. Research the following about the photographer:
-Biography: birth date, country, state of residence, education
-Significance: Describe what makes their work significant and unique.  Why is the work well known or recognized?

    3. Include 15 of the photographer's images, the website(s) you obtained the information from, and an analysis of each of the photographs.

For each of your 15 photos you include, tell me about:
  •      Composition: Describe the use of framing, perspective, contrast, balance, emphasis, lighting, etc
  •     Concept/Aboutness/Idea: Describe what the image is about.  What is the photographer trying to say through his/her images? How does the composition support the concept?  What are the intentions in creating the images?
  •      Your Opinion: What do you like or dislike about the work?
 4. Overall opinion of the artist and his or her work
