Digital Assignment 1: Explore
Description:
You will explore the process of digital image capture using a digital camera.  You will learn and implement appropriate camera settings.  Treat the assignment prompts as inspiration to experiment with concept and content, while learning the technical aspects of image capture.

Learning Objectives:
·         Experiment and learn camera controls, including focus, aperture, shutter speed, exposure, bracketing, zoom
·         Experiment with different lighting conditions
·         Experiment with different compositions using knowledge of the principles of design
·         Digitally process and finalize black and white digital photographs

Guidelines:
ü  You will choose six prompts and six sets to combine as inspiration for your photo taking.  You should shoot about 75-100 photographs total to make sure to have a variety of images to choose from for your final images.
ü  The photo taking will be done in partners-but all students will independently edit and load 5 final edited images to their blog
ü  After shooting, load your images to a computer. Keep photos saved to the drive that is labeled with your student number-NOT ON THE DESKTOP
ü  5 of your best photos will be edited in Photoshop and loaded to your blog to present to the class

Choose 6 Prompts from the following: illusion, revelation, chaos, animated, simplicity, doppelganger, hero, instability, encounter, evasion, unpredictable, secret, play variation, symbolic, historic, boldness, “once upon a time”, suspended, dreams, alter-ego, construction, serious, dead, dread, free, home, drama, boldness, stillness, juxtaposition, melody, balance, sharp, torn, light

To combine with…

Choose 6 Sets from the following:
Principles: Contrast, balance, repetition, symmetry
Point-of-view: Choose different perspectives of same subject
Lighting: Day light, morning light, indoor light, backlit subject, contrast lighting, flash lighting, light as subject
Shutter Speed: fast (1/125 or faster) vs. slow shutter speed (1/8 or slower) have to adjust aperture
Depth of field: Large dof (small aperture (f11 or smaller)) vs. small dof (f5.6 or bigger) capture the same scene
Framing: pick a subject and make at least 20 captures of subject from all angles and distances

Final Prints:
From your photo shoots, pick any 5 images from your contact sheets that you feel are the most interesting and effective.  Digitally process these images and make final images.  You will post these to your flikr/blog site for a final grade.  Your post should be titled: Digital Explore and each photo should be titled. You will have a brief writing assignment with this assignment to describe your learning and compositions.

Personalize it in any way and make sure you save your account name and password!!!!!

Once you have created the account, please send me the url (web address) by posting it in a comment on this post.
